Premium sustainable embroidery supplies from Madeira
Sustainability in the textile industry is due to its global impact of particular importance and at the same time challenging. Madeira contributes to more environmental awareness by offering various supplies to create 100 % responsibly produced embroideries.
Madeira’s sustainable products include: Sensa Green, Sensa Green Bobbin – both embroidery threads made of 100 % TENCEL™ Lyocell –, our recycled polyester threads Polyneon Green, Polyneon Green Bobbin and E-ZEE Green Cut embroidery backing made of 100 % recycled plastic bottles. Our Green product range supports you in taking on the sustainable balancing act in the textile industry.
Botanical origin
Our sustainable embroidery threads Sensa Green and Sensa Green Bobbin, are not only very soft and persuade with their unique silky matte look, they are made from 100 % TENCEL™ Lyocell.
These fibers are extracted from responsibly grown wood using a unique closed loop system which recovers and reuses the solvents used, minimising the environmental impact of production. The fibres are then spun into yarn and dyed creating our amazing Sensa Green threads.
Madeira Sensa Green is the first-of-its-kind coloured lyocell machine embroidery yarn and makes it a pleasure to create sustainable embellishments and even complicated, dense designs.

Recycled materials
Polyneon Green and Polyneon Green Bobbin embroidery threads as well as E-ZEE Green Cut embroidery backing are made of 100 % recycled polyester derived from post-consumer PET bottles. Our recycled products help save resources without sacrificing on quality.
Polyneon Green lets your embroidery shine in 108 shades with the same premium quality as our conventional Polyneon threads. The extra durable, resistant yarn keeps its beautiful shine even under harsh conditions.
E-ZEE Green Cut doesn’t slip on the embroidery frame and provides excellent stabilisation in all directions. Our sustainable backing option comes in 2 weights and 3 widths and is a great choice for the environmentally conscious embroiderer.

The core of the linear economy that the world was following for the past decades is turning natural resources into products that after use become waste polluting nature.
In contrast, the circular economy targets zero waste and transforms the economy into a regenerative system by keeping resources, products and materials in use for longer. To improve the productivity of resources, waste materials become new input, either as a component for another industrial process or product or as regenerative resource for nature like compost. The aim is to build an autonomous and sustainable society in tune with the issue of environmental resources.
Being aware that a sustainable economy is more important than ever, as resources are finite and very valuable, Madeira supports the idea of a circular economy.

Our Sensa Green threads are made from 100 % TENCEL™ Lyocell. The main ingredient is cellulose extracted from wood that comes from responsibly managed forests. The trees are grown on non-agricultural soil, are watered by the rain and do not require pesticides, fungicides or herbicides. In order to extract cellulose, the raw materials are turned into woodchips. The non-cellulosic components are then saved to create other products.
The next step turns the cellulose into a pulp from which the biodegradable Lyocell fibres are derived – the same material (wood pulp) is usually required for producing paper. The TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres are manufactured by Lenzing, who uses a closed-loop technology which reuses the water and more than 99 % of the organic solvent and generates close to zero emissions.
These fibres are transported short distances and arrive to Madeira's factory in Germany, where they get their silk matte colours and finish to become Sensa Green, a sensationally soft embroidery thread.
TENCEL™ is a brand of LENZING AG

For our E-ZEE Green Cut backing we take the same approach as for our Polyneon Green threads: recycling waste. Collected PET bottles get cleaned, shredded into flakes, formed into chips and melted to a liquid. The melt is spun out through a nozzle together with hot air, thereby transformed into wafer-thin filaments and blown onto a conveyor belt at high speed to form a web. This process creates our recycled embroidery backing. When plastics are reused and transformed into new products, additional waste is avoided and less energy is consumed than in the production of conventional polyester.
